BluFax Units

Portable Units

BluFAx portable units are battry-operated, self-contained units that are designed to provide ultimate flebility in placing units for traveltime and O-D studies on freeways and arterial roadways.    Stand-along units, packaged in a water-proof Pellican case, operate for 1up to 12 days on a fully-charged AGM-type battery.   BluFax portable units come bundled with BluStat software, which support processing and analysis of data for traveltime, speed, and O-D studies. Standard portable units are configured with a Class 1 Bluetooth radio and antenna with a detection zone of approximately 100m (300 ft).   Units are shipped with the batteries fully charged, however battery chargers are not included.  (Specifications Sheet), (BluFax Operations Manual)Mounting brackets are available which allow units to be mounted on poles and structures.

Realtime Units

BluFax realtime, permanent mounted units are based on Traffax’s industry proven low power, embedded Bluetooth detection sensors. This allows flexible installation using either solar or existing power sources, and either cellualr or existing data links. Integrated GPS provides international time synchronization and asset location. Data is transmitted in real time to BluFax Web which provides storage, processing, and reporting. Internet based reporting is supported at any level of data aggregation, from individual Bluetooth detections, to travel time and speed averages at specified time intervals. Permanent Mounting

BluFax may be permanently mounted for continuous, real‐time detection of traffic. BluFax units are designed for flexible power and communications options. The primary considerations for permanent mounting include antenna location, power, and data communications. Three basic potential configurations cover the majority of installation environments. These include (1) completely self‐powered stand alone operation, (2) mounting in an existing traffic signal cabinet, (3) mounting BluFax externally in its own enclosure with supplied power (and possibly supplied landline communications.) Cellular Modem Options

BluFax units have the capability to send daily data files using the cellular modem. When active AND the reboot function is also enabled, the unit will reboot once per day and attempt to deliver daily reports via email. During reboot, any data files that have not been previously transmitted via email will be packaged and sent as an email attachment to a specified email account. This option allows data to be collected without visiting the unit, and also provides an indication of proper functioning. BluFax firmware Version 8 has been released.  Version 8 upgrades include improved configuration options and status information, as well as the ability to report data once per day via a cellular modem connection.   Contact us for information
